House Architecture in Mexico City, known as Casa Lila is located in Historically “Chimalistac” between San Angel and Coyoacan, with XVI Century Churches and cobblestones streets and plazas.

A clean Mexican Minimalist or Barragan Style, home by architect Gerardo (Jerry) Jacobs.

The peaceful style and accent colors, though with larger windows allowing natural light, combined with structural glass a “Minimalist-tech” style. We used seamless glass in the south elevation facing the garden and over the split level living room.

Houses in Mexico City are wall enclosed from the street and the street elevation faces the north, so it is a solid wall. Uncommon in Lavender, a color that came from the flowers of the Jacaranda trees in the lot, imported from Japan.

Design Details.

The house sits between two tree trunks. While one runs through the master bedroom balcony at the back façade, the other faces the kitchen.

The living room is double height split level, certainly with two balconies. A  glass ceiling and a glass wall, joined at a neo angle, as a result make it look almost like a winter garden to capture the sun.

Most noteworthy a unique glass surrounded fireplace, hides the wet bar and consequently refracts heat throughout the house.

Master bedroom and alcove open to split-level keeping rooms open, while also connected to the rest of the house. Steel and Glass staircase leads to the studio-terrace on the top floor.

Architectural salvaging. The entrance pair of French Doors from Arturo Pani’s (Telas Pani) showroom were used for the mechanical room. We also salvaged other material and reused them here as well.

Travertine slab floor throughout ground floor. Mirrored walls used to enlarge the small Interior rooms.
