Cancun Residential Architecture and Interior Design. I started to work in Cancun in the early 80’s, designing and building the Aca Joe stores: First of all at the Downtown area which was friendly then, consequently as the city developed Plaza Caracol the High end mall at the time, and finally a Floating prototype.
As a result we were invited later to do the Interiors of the Omni Hotel, consequently other commercial work and the remodeling of Plaza Caracol I (not completed).
In the early 90’s a friend and Realtor was developing the Puerto Aventuras Yacht Club in the Mayan Riviera 100 miles down south due to that he referred me to do the penthouse for the owner, which I did in 1992-93.
I came back in 1996 and I started designing larger Ocean and waterfront homes.
Most noteworthy Villa Projects included Villa Punta Sam, Villa Dianne or Villa Madonna, Villa Reba-Hacienda on the Beach, Villa Arcadia, Villa La Habana and some Townhouses and condo apartments.
Jerry has the Local Know How and a USA practice. The balance between Creativity and good management “A perfect combination”. J.O. (Homeowner and happy client).
When developing  Cancun Residential Architecture and Interior Design Custom Home projects, some of the important issues we have come across, are described below.
Usually these are Custom second homes for a specific client, hence they require a personalized service. Furthermore when designing and building, away from home, it pays to use the right people. Second homes are different, above all one should realize that the rooms and functions for the home are completely different than in a main home.
Most of the time too, you are dealing with different locations, such as the site, the owners first home or airplane, and us, therefore you should be very thorough with your communications and records.
For us the right people to bring to the local support team, hence are not only experienced Architects, Interior Designers and Builders, which you do find in some locations, especially as the resort locations grow it is easier to find talent, but above all people with the right culture, and the services you personally need.
Towns grow. In the 80’s when we started working in Cancun there was a local population of around 50,000. Now it is around 1 million, therefore a big difference in many ways.
Jerry Jacobs Design, combines both. We are perfectly familiar with the culture in Mexico, and particularly Cancun and Los Cabos and similarly other resort destinations in Mexico, where we have worked for many years.
We offer the right combination of Creativity and Good management, while we also have the balance of Local Know How and USA technology. “A perfect combination”*
Our projects were described by the top realtors in town as pioneers in Land Use and Retaining wall design. And we are up to date in Hurricane protection. We plan ahead and build well. No shortcuts.
We are a San Francisco Bay Area based company with 30 years in Residential Architecture and Interior Design practice. We operate as a California corporation, with associates or branches in Los Cabos, Cancun and Mexico City. You get the best of both worlds, a difficult combination to find in one go.
We have been designing and building private Custom resort homes in Mexico for over 20 years, with great success.
Jerry Jacobs, was born an American in Mexico City, to a Lebanese family and a father from NY. Jerry was raised in Mexico City  where he obtained his Masters in Architecture at UNAM, and remains a Licensed Architect. His initial success was in Retail Store Design for ACA JOE  which exploded Worldwide and is now defunct, outside of Mexico.
This retail concept brought him to the San Francisco Bay in the early 80’s.  Jerry knows all the resorts in Mexico and has building connections practically in all of them, while he Designs homes to the most sophisticated US standards in The SF Bay as well.
If you are a Californian or from anywhere else and want a house in Los Cabos, Cancun or Mexico City, we would be happy to help you.
Colonial Architecture and Pre-columbian as well, as a source of inspiration, as a test of time, but not to be imitated in a different Era or pastiche. We do know what a real Pueblo is like, not the staged version, and we know the essence of Mexican Architecture.
The Minimalism and Color popularized in the modern architecture of Pritzker Price winner Luis Barragán. “I traveled through  the country for many years, always studying the Architecture with a critical eye. Saw the good and the bad, and I am committed to producing the Best”.
The Pool at Villa “El Descanso”. Â Yes we were hypnotized by the beauty of the Ocean View and decided to bring it closer to the home. When my clients bought the structure, the retaining wall was falling apart. We took care of it creating an Engineered retaining wall to hold the Ocean and the new pool.

Villa Madonna. 20,000 ft2 Villa at night All bedrooms and main rooms view the Ocean. Architecture and Interior Design by Jerry Jacobs Design.Â
We called it Villa Madonna. And then everyone else in town did. You could just ask and the taxi cabs would take you there, as part of their tours. It is a 5 story, with elevator home.
You do not see the lower ground floor, and hardly see the Pent-house terrace level. They wanted a large area, while the lot was not so big, so I called it a Townhouse too.
Before we designed the built Villas, we were invited to design this other one that didn’t get built. It happens. The location was ideal for commercial development so the owner saved the lot to do a Restaurant. Villa “El Meco”, would have sat by the Mayan Ruins of the same name, near Punta Sam in Cancun.
The foyer of the Cancun Townhouse converted from two condos. First of all we created the spacious split level entrance or Foyer, finally added Crema Maya carved limestone columns and balcony.

Creativity. “We extend the envelope”. Hence here we bring the Sea closer to your pool, or even a split level when we can. Whatever is possible, furthermore we try to do it for the sake of the project. We make the most out of it.
Certainly projects are an opportunity to please the client, and they are also a means to create Art and Inspiration and successful Architecture and Interior Design, always unique to the location.
Turnkey. We have managed turn-key Residential projects for several well known American Entertainment and Business personalities, most noteworthy entertainment stars.
